Thank you for joining us.
Needle & Skein Yarn Shop is the home of the original Melt the ICE Hat, the fiber art project that is helping MN communities.
With the help of not only the local community, but fiber artists across the state, country, and the world, you have made the Melt the ICE Hat more than viral. You have made it a movement that is doing real good for people who need help right now.
Proceeds from the Melt the ICE Hat project have been donated and continue to be donated to local organizations making a difference.
What’s the best way to show your support?
Please consider purchasing the pattern for the hat – available in either knit or crochet – for $5.
All proceeds go to the community.
What is the Melt the ICE Hat?
The “Melt the ICE” hat is a wearable sign of resistance, inspired by red, tasseled hats worn by Norwegians during the Nazi occupation of Norway during the 1940s. It was a sign of protest then, and it has become a sign of protest now – a visible message of dissidence against the occupation of the Twin Cities by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Designed by Paul Neary, an employee at Needle & Skein, the Melt the ICE hat has gained more traction than we ever dreamed. We can’t thank everyone enough for the role they have played in spreading the message and spreading this design. We have received messages of support from all over the world, and that support is doing real good.
Effects of the Melt the ICE Hat

Donation recipient organizations include: STEP – St. Louis Park, Immigrant Rapid Relief Fund, MNHealth for Teens & Young Adults, and Smitten Kitten mutual aid.
